WIZARD #126: NOT JUST ANOTHER PIECE OF CRAP! Hey, Wizard #126 came out Wednesday, and guess who's finally on the cover after all these freaking years! SAVAGE DRAGON, BABY! Woohoo! Who cares if its only because Wizard wanted a jam piece with all the Image creators, Dragon's FINALLY on the cover of this magazine! Now if only Wizard would wise up and give Dragon a solo spot on the cover, we'd all be set.
CSN COVERS DRAGON
CSN must love Erik Larsen, which makes them okay in my book. Not only are they featuring Savage Dragon's origin as their main story, THEY GAVE DRAGON THE FRONT COVER ON THEIR MAGAZINE. Just goes to show you that there's some people out there who know how great the Dragon is.
SAVAGE DRAGON #93: LATE Savage Dragon #93 will be hitting the stands Feb. 20th at the earliest says Erik. The reasons why are mostly because the books still off schedule a tad from the whole pnuemonia thing, and the fact that Erik had to finish up his part for the 10th Anniversary Image Hardcover book. The good news is that that's all finished, though! But yeah. Don't bother looking for the new SD for at least another two weeks. *sigh* Savage Dragon #93 is $2.95 and published by Image Comics IMAGE 10th ANNIVERSARY: LATE? As with almost ALL of Image's solicited books, it looks like the 10th Anniversary book will be late, at least so says Larsen. Erik's all done with his part, but it looks like Toddy and the gang are pulling up the rear. I hate to think that this book will end up on the racks closer to their 11th anniversary, but the way those other guys draw... *sigh*
OLD NEWS: SAVAGE DRAGON IN CALVIN AND HOBBES? Hey, this is news to me, so sod off! Apparently, way back when, the guy who did Calvin and Hobbes had a little inside joke poking fun at Savage Dragon in one of his strips! Neat! Says Erik... "...The strip in question ran on February 20, 1994, two months after SD #7. (The strip we're referring to here features a guy in a green costume with a couple fins on it getting a hole blown through his chest as he fights a nubile blonde. Calvin reads the comic book, is completely stunned and wanders into the other room to go watch TV. His mother immediately snaps it off saying that there's too much violence on TV and suggests that he go read something instead). It's hard to know how far in advance Watterson drew Calvin and Hobbes of course -- but given the time frame, it's certainly POSSIBLE that he draw the strip AFTER SD#7 where the Dragon was shot through the stomach and dropped onto a roof. I imagine that we'll never know for sure. Still, it was similar enough that a number of people pointed it out to me. -Erik " To see the strip in question, just click here. If you ask me, it's most definitely a play on Dragon, but like Erik said, we'll never really know for sure.
SAVAGE MEDIEVAL SANDMAN!!!11 Consider yourself lucky if you don't frequent the Savage Forum. Seems some disgruntled Gaiman acolytes heard about a post Erik made on the Savage Forum saying how Todd clearly is in the right on the whole "Who owns Angela, Cogliostro, and Medieval Spawn" debate (and it's so disgustingly obvious that Todd is the owner, I have no idea why it's still being talked about). Anyways, a bunch of them came to the forum saying stuff like "Neil owns it because he writes soooo good and Todd smells*" The whole mess is all moot, of course, because the final decision is in the hands of the court (yeah, I can't believe it's taking a judge to decide this idiocy either). The only good things that DID come out of this is that Erik may have two potential new characters! Medieval Sandman and Insomniac!!! As Erik described Medieval Sandman, he would look exactly like Sandman, only spend all of his time talking about how different he is from Neil's Sandman! Brilliance! Hopefully, Medieval Sandman and Insomniac debut before Savage Dragon #100, and meet a horrible, grizzly death at the hands of Khan. Be on the lookout for these two COMPLETELY ORIGINAL characters from Erik Larsen and Co.! (*editorial dramatization, may not have been said) older news..... |
