NEW LARSEN NEWS FOR JANUARY 9th, 2002

DRAGON GETS BUSTED.

Dragon bust prototype?

That's right, folks, Clayburn Moore is working on a Savage Dragon bust!  News of this first showed up in Savage Dragon #92 (out now!), so expect more news and hopefully preliminary designs and such in the following weeks.  If the bust is anywhere as good as the Moore statue done awhile back, then we got some gold on our hands, gentlemen.

CHRIS GIARRUSSO DOES SAVAGE DRAGON BACK-UP

taken from Comics Continuum...

Erik Larsen has announced that cartoonist Chris Giarrusso will be doing an all-new comic strip in the back of Savage Dragon beginning with issue #93.

Giarrusso is the creator of Marvel's Bullpen Bits and the recent Giant-Size Mini-Marvels one-shot that reprinted past strips alongside an all-new story. His new Comic Bits strip will be very much in the same vein, but instead of solely poking fun at Marvel characters, Giarrusso will be satirizing the whole world of comics.

Comic Bits is the latest in a series of back-up strips in Savage Dragon. Others included Chris Eliopoulos' Desperate Times and Don Simpson's Megaton Man, as well as the current ongoing strips Savage Tales by Brian Blake and Nick Derington and Savage Dragonbert and Savage Brainbert by Karl H.

"These are the best comic strips not found in your daily newspaper," Larsen said. "Comic Bits is a swell addition to the fabulous funnies section that appears in the back of my monthly mag."

Larsen said the new strip isn't a substitute for an existing strip or an excuse that would allow him to reduce the page count of his lead story.

"I think it's my duty to give readers as much as humanly possible for their hard earned money," he said. "Instead of cultivating an ad farm in the back of Savage Dragon, I'd just as soon fill the book up with as much solid entertainment for your funny-book dollar as I can manage."

DRAW! MAGAZINE #4

This is NOT the cover to Draw #4

Ever hear of Draw! Magazine?  Yeah, well me neither, but I HAVE heard of TwoMorrows Publishing, the guys who put this book out.  They're also the guys who put out that kick-ass (and expensive) Jack Kirby Collector, and in the upcoming Draw! #4, Erik Larsen gives a tutorial on how to draw shit.  But don't expect it any time soon.  Last I heard, Draw! was still only on issue 2, and the third one's been delayed a few weeks (or months depending on who you're talking to).  So... yeah, keep an eye out for it.

In the meantime, go check out the TwoMorrows website!  Maybe you'll get lucky and find out the exact date of when it's coming out.

Bring on the bad guys.

Savage Dragon #92 is out this week and... well... do ya really want me to spoil it here?  Even if you did, I won't, you cheap bastards.  Anyways, yeah, it's out and, as shown by the cover, Dragon's cruising with the Vicious Circle now.

Savage Dragon #92 is $2.95 and published by Image Comics

what's with Dragon's gay shirt?

Who's all geared up for the Image 10th anniversary hardcover?!  I know I'm sure as hell am!  Despite the hefty price tag, it's well worth the price, considering it's going to have original stories by not only those old farts like Todd McFarlane and Jim Valentino, but also..... THE ORIGIN OF DRAGON!  That's right folks, Erik's finally decided to let us all in on the secret.  Start counting the days, gentlemen.  Start counting the days.

McFARLANE TOYS

Mmmm... brains....

Also, to coincide with the Image 10th Anniversary hardcover book, McFarlane Toys is releasing a character from each of the remaining founders of Image Comics, meaning the line will consist of Spawn (yawn), Shadowhawk (kinda neat), Ripclaw (yay. A Wolverine clone.), and... drumroll please.... THE DRAGON!  As soon as development pictures or prototypes or whatever pop-up on the net or some toy magazine, you can bet yer ass we'll have them too, so... yeah.  At least hope that we'll have them, or else... y'know.... you guys are screwed, because Joe Shuler's and Mark Welser are too lazy to update their sites, and sd.com is.... well... y'know.  heh.

SAVAGE DRAGON/SUPERMAN: CHICAGO

I'm painted by Alex Ross.

I forgot to mention this last time, but in Savage Dragon #91, Erik mentioned that he is FINISHED with the Savage Dragon/Superman book!  Huzzah!  Erik says "I'm guessing it will be out in March, 2002 or so."  So remember that month, guys.  I'm pretty sure I'll end up forgetting and get royally pissed when I show up and it's all sold out.
