ARENA #15
This is the cover to Arena #15. It was released in December of
1993. The cover is actually the promo piece for the then upcoming
Freak Force series. It was drawn by Erik Larsen and colored by Scott
Pierce. Inside also has a lenghty interview with Erik himself, as
well as never before seen sketches and layouts of Savage Dragon and Freak
Force. To see a larger version of the cover, click on the thumbnail

THE COMIC READER #1
Supposedly, this book came out in June of 2000, but I have yet to see
a copy. The cover was a wraparound with other artists renditions
of Larsen's Dragon dominating the main part of the cover. |

THE COMICS JOURNAL #222
The Comics Journal #222 came out in April of 2000. It featured
an unused cover from the Savage Dragon series, as well as a full length
interview with Erik himself. As a bonus, there were a TON of extra
never-before-seen sketches, layouts, and others. To see a larger
version, click on the cover to the left. |
IMAGE ILLUSTRATED #1
Image Illustrated #1 came out in September of 1994 and published by
the same folks that were doing HERO ILLUSTRATED at the same time.
The whole bok was dedicated to Larsen and the other Image guys, and features
a bio, interview, and speculation on the characters within Savage Dragon. |

UNUSED WIZARD COVER
Here is an old unused cover for Wizard Magazine. The cover features
Erik Larsen's take on DC's Lobo character, against a very gay looking pink
wizard background. I guess we know why they didn't use it.
Pink doesn't really flatter Lobo's character, does it? |
DUKE NUKEM
In a more recent issue of Wizard, the staff came up with an idea to
have comic book artists do their renditions of today's popular video games.
Erik Larsen, being the big fan of massive violence, chicks with big knockers,
and giant guns, was nominated to do the fan fave Duke Nukem. To see
a bigger (and more clear) version of it, click on the pic to the right. |

TIPS AND TRICKS #65
Tips and Tricks #65 came out in July of 2000 and had a cover featuring
a retro style version of the X-Men by Erik Larsen. The reason?
Larsen says he was going for a more Kirby-esque version of the X-Men and
that's just swell, to see a much larger version of the cover, click on
the pic to the left. |
WIZARD SPECIAL EDITION
This special edition was released by Wizard Entertainment in 1992, and
featured numerous articles on the then-upcoming company, Image Coimcs.
The cover features a jam piece with all the Image founders, and most prominently
was the Savage Dragon. To see a larger version, click on the cover
to the right. |
